Validity of UKAC Accreditation

UKAC accreditation is valid for a period of five years. During this time, UKAC accredited certification bodies (CBs) are subject to regular surveillance and reassessment activities to ensure that they continue to meet UKAC’s high standards.

After five years, CBs must undergo a full reassessment in order to maintain their accreditation. This reassessment is more comprehensive than the surveillance assessments and includes a review of the CB’s documentation, systems, and procedures, as well as an on-site assessment.

If a CB successfully passes the reassessment, their accreditation will be renewed for another five years.

To ensure that UKAC accreditation remains valid, CBs must:

  • Continue to meet all of the requirements of the relevant UKAC accreditation scheme(s).
  • Pay the annual accreditation fee.
  • Cooperate with UKAC surveillance and reassessment activities.

If a CB fails to meet any of these requirements, UKAC may take action, including suspending or withdrawing their accreditation.

Why is it important to maintain the validity of UKAC accreditation?

Maintaining the validity of UKAC accreditation is important for a number of reasons, including:

  • To demonstrate to customers that the CB is still competent to assess and certify organizations against relevant standards.
  • To maintain access to markets that require UKAC accreditation.
  • To uphold the reputation of UKAC accreditation.

How can CBs maintain the validity of their UKAC accreditation?

CBs can maintain the validity of their UKAC accreditation by:

  • Regularly reviewing their documentation, systems, and procedures to ensure that they are still meeting UKAC’s requirements.
  • Implementing any necessary changes to their documentation, systems, and procedures.
  • Cooperating with UKAC surveillance and reassessment activities.

UKAC is committed to helping CBs maintain the validity of their accreditation. We offer a range of support services, including training, guidance, and resources.
